TMG Consulting has provided Quality Assurance (QA) services for hundreds of utilities since 1992. It is customer-centric in its approach, ensuring that all elements of the plan and project are reasonable and match well with the customer’s internal capabilities. TMG’s staff is seasoned and uses its experience to find and communicate issues while they are still small and containable. There are eight key methodology components to TMG’s highly successful QA program: 1. PROJECT VIEWPOINT 2. RESOURCE MONITORING 3. PROJECT PLAN 4. PROJECT ACTIVITIES 5. PROGRAM MANAGEMENT 6. BUDGET AND SCOPE 7. BUSINESS AND IT READINESS 8. RISK TMG ensures that these areas are being managed appropriately by both internal and vendor project management, and report anomalies to leadership with risk assessments and recommendations.

We align our approach to become an integral part of your governance model; if you don’t already have a governance model, we can help you build one that best fits your organization. Think of our Project Managers as the traffic cops of the project: directing teams, enforcing contractual obligations, and providing clear and timely communication, all in the interest of keeping the project moving towards a successful and timely completion. TMG’s Project Managers understand the complex integrations required between large-scale utility applications and the impact to the business based on tactical and strategic decisions made during the implementation. In addition to managing and administering the project, the TMG Project Manager will bring a wealth of application implementation experience, lessons learned, and tools to facilitate knowledge transfer and team enablement. Our Project Managers have a hands-on approach and have worked on teams with various levels of experience implementing large and complex technology projects. Following the Project Management Book of Knowledge (PMBOK) framework, the TMG Project Manager will work closely with the chosen Solution Implementer/System Integrator (SI) to adhere to the five project management process groups of Initiation, Planning, Executing, Monitoring & Controlling, and Closing the project.

The last 30 years have seen massive strides taken by utilities and software vendors to embrace customers as the primary consumers of utility services as opposed to the focus on delivering service to a physical address. Including Customer Relationship Management (CRM) systems in the utility computing environment is the latest step in that direction. The collection of more information on how customers seek to be engaged has a clear link to customer satisfaction, and greater information on consumer purchasing trends can benefit those utilities that are seeking to broaden the ways they earn revenue. Mating existing Customer Information System (CIS) platforms with what have been stand-alone CRM platforms can present challenges to utilities. While the integration between systems like Meter Data Management (MDM) and CIS have matured greatly over the last ten years, the CIS to CRM integration is in its infancy. Issues like data replication and process replication between the two systems introduce risks. The “blue sky/green field” nature of CRM implementations introduce scope risks that the CIS field mostly left behind twenty years ago. Since CRM applications are not focused on typical utility -industry business processes, utility mass market CRM implementations can vary greatly between utilities, making each a “custom installation” that may be difficult for software vendors to support. TMG expertise of recent standardization by software companies and the introduction of CRM “industry templates” by others may well be one answer to address these issues.

Digital Enablement Support (Agile/DevOps) streamlines the release process and improves product offerings, allows for better collaboration, more value and fewer risks in each release, fewer bugs and faster fixes, increased visibility, and higher user satisfaction rates as the products are more qualitative. To simplify the process, we have gathered the most common pitfalls that might happen during this process and how to avoid them making your process working smoothly. We help utilities establish a solid foundation, focusing on 5 key enablers of digital transformation that will help anchor the successes you’ve had to date and establish a repeatable process to extend that to new parts of your business:

The state of the data in the newly implemented solution will influence the acceptance rate and confidence of the end users, determine the time it takes to stabilize the system after conversion, determine the level of negative public exposure, and limit the number of exceptions experienced after go-live. The effort spent upfront to clean legacy, source data, to validate data transformation, and to validate that the data adheres to new business rules, will allow for a smooth go-live with few billing exceptions. TMG has extensive experience with migrating from legacy systems to commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) CIS applications. Our methodology takes data conversion off the critical path by surfacing data compatibility and content issues early in the project timeline. Our approach to solution design minimizes uncertainty by performing a fact-based presentation of the source data. This process provides true knowledge of the actual data to be considered before applying or supplying transformation business rules. Our best-of-breed data conversion methodology, combined with our experienced resources who have a long history of working within the utility industry, will position your project for success.

OCM processes run in parallel with the technical implementation. align Sponsorship, Project Management, and Change Management to meet project objectives. We have a roadmap to prepare for change which provides understanding for risk to scale.

  • Speed of Adoption: Getting folks to use the system and adopt the new processes faster.
  • Ultimate Utilization: Getting everyone who can benefit from using the system to use it.
  • Proficiency: Managing the dip in productivity (getting folks involved and making them aware of the changes, hands-on practice in Sandbox environment).

Utilizing Prosci’s Impact Index we assess the amount of change management that will be necessary. Factors include Organizational Attributes like the impact of past changes on employees and Change Characteristics such as the type and scope of change.

We work alongside internal teams to effectively leverage information technology to support organizational objectives. Our consultants have extensive business and technical knowledge to help you as needed, filling gaps in your staffing to meet your obligations during an implementation project, the stabilization phase, and with future efforts.
